As part of the Opening Doors campaign by the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, DOL grants can support local governments that are helping homeless veterans find and train for in-demand jobs.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is sponsoring $13 million in $100K-$300K grants for job training, counseling, placement and other services that help eligible homeless and incarcerated veterans get back to work. Towns, cities and county governments across the U.S. may apply without a matching fund requirement. DOL is looking to fund programs that address employment challenges and identify the skills needed for in-demand jobs and careers. Programs must:

  • Develop and execute strategies with attainable goals for job-driven training based on Labor Market Information and evidence-based successful practices.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with community-based organizations to ensure that local, state and federal resources are used effectively and efficiently
  • Deliver or connect participants to effective job training, counseling and other related services, such as the provision of housing and needed health services
  • Provide effective services to female homeless veterans, homeless veterans with families and incarcerated or recently incarcerated veterans who are at risk of homelessness
