$15M in HUD Jobs Plus Grants Available

HUD’s Jobs Plus grants program has $15M for locally-based, job-driven approaches that help residents of public housing increase their employment earnings.

 

The U.S Office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is accepting applications through June 13, 2016 for the Jobs Plus grants program.

Jobs Plus focuses on locally-based, job-driven approaches that help residents of public housing increase their earnings potential through better job placement, educational advancement, increased skills, financial literacy, work readiness and more.

The Jobs Plus program has three components:

Employment-Related Services: Applicants must partner with the Department of Labor Workforce Investment Board and American Job Center in their areas to offer multiple employment-related services for residents with a range of employment needs. Program services like career exploration/job readiness workshops, job search and job placement assistance, work experience like on-the-job training and internships, education and training opportunities, rapid re-employment assistance in the event of job loss, access to computers, phones and other supplies and more.

Financial Incentives: Applicants must implement a financial incentive for program participants, known as the Jobs Plus Earned Income Disregard (JPEID). Rent incentives offered through JPEID will be reimbursed. Further guidance will be available at the time of the award.

Community Support for Work: Applicants should incorporate sustainable engagement strategies involving residents.

Towns, cities and counties with a 25 percent or higher match may apply. Awards could range between $1 million and $3 million.
