Grants are available for the inventory and national designation of historic properties associated with underrepresented communities.
The National Parks Service (NPS) is offering grants up to $50,000 for the survey and inclusion of the historic properties of underrepresented communities not currently listed in the National Register of Historic Places and National Historic Landmarks.
The purpose of the program is to preserve diverse cultural resources and include the broadest representation of communities in historic national registers. Grant recipients must nominate to these registry programs within one year of grant completion.
There is no matching requirement, and county, city or township governments can apply. Applicants may also partner with non-profits and National Heritage Areas and pursue private-public partnerships that engage communities.
Applications are due by July 15, 2016.
