DAYTON, OHIO — The CVS Health Foundation has awarded the Reach Out Montgomery community paramedicine program $30,000 to help achieve better outcomes.

The Reach Out Montgomery paramedicine program brings back the house call. It provides underserved and uninsured populations access to volunteer physicians, nurses and other health care professionals through a partnership with the Jefferson Township Fire Department.

Last year, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed a law that allows paramedics to create community paramedicine programs. These voluntary programs fill gaps in health care coverage by enabling paramedics, EMTs and others to visit residents–before and after 911 transport–to evaluate any needs they may have and connect them to ancillary service providers. The visits may also include home fire safety evaluations.

“Through our ongoing partnerships with the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, we’ve been able to address the critical need for increasing access to care, improving care coordination and managing chronic conditions,” said Eileen Howard Boone, president of the CVS Health Foundation.
