North Carolina is accepting applications for water and sewer infrastructure grants for projects in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
North Carolina offers up to $2 million in infrastructure grants for drinking water and wastewater projects in areas that are 51 percent low and moderate income (LMI). In January, the state awarded more than $14 million to 10 municipalities.
The program is funded through the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grants program,
The state’s Division of Water Infrastructure will award funding to construct public water and sewer infrastructure that addresses public health and environmental concerns. Projects connecting LMI households to existing water and sewer services are eligible. However, new service extension projects require a mandatory connection ordinance.
Local governments may apply for multiple projects, but only one project per applicant would be awarded. There is no matching requirement, and a total award may be paid out over three years.
The deadline to apply is September 30, 2016.
See Table 2 for a list of recently approved projects on the Division’s website.
