$10M Grants for Rehabilitation of High-Hazard Dams

As part of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act of 2016, a new grant was added to FEMA’s National Dam Safety Program. The Rehabilitation of High Hazard Potential Damsgrants provides technical, planning, design and construction assistance for high-hazard dams that have the potential to and could result in the loss of human life in the event of failure or misoperation.

For FY 2019, FEMA was appropriated $10 million for the High Hazard Potential Dams grants, and is now accepting applications.

Eligible grant applicants include high-hazard dams:

• Located in states or territories with dam safety programs
• Classified as ‘high hazard potential’ by dam safety agencies in states or territories
• Under emergency action plans approved by states or territorial dam safety agencies
• Determined to fail to meet minimum dam safety standards, or to pose unacceptable risks to the public, by states or territories

Applications are due July 8.
