New Jersey's Local Freight Impact Fund Grant Program offers a way for local governments to improve local roads and bridges for large freight truck use.
Counties and municipalities in New Jersey can now apply for transportation infrastructure grants from the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Local Freight Impact Fund.
The program aims to maintain and improve the state’s infrastructure by addressing the impacts of large freight on roads and bridges at the local level.
Applicants can choose from four categories related to local freight impact for project funding:

Grant recipients must award construction within 36 months of grant notification.
According to NJDOT’s Local Freight Impact Fund Handook, a 2016 legislative bill amended the 1984 New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund Authority Act of 1984 to enable the State’s Capital Transportation Program for 2018 through 2024 to include infrastructure investments for jurisdictions that connect to larger hubs.
