The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) through the U.S. Chief Financial Officers Council (CFO) is offering several online grants management training modules as a resource to organizations looking to apply for federal grants.

Originally developed for federal grant managers, the free training is now open to anyone interested in learning more about the federal grant system and how to navigate it.

There are five modules as part of the grants management training, each covering a different portion of the process.

Module 1: Laws, regulations and guidance

Provides information regarding the underlying laws, regulations, policies, practices and guidance for grants and their cooperative agreement programs

Module 2: Financial assistance mechanisms

This module helps users differentiate between the types of federal assistance and how they can be used.

Module 3: Uniform guidance administrative requirements

Learn what is expected of the applicants and awardees, and what is required of grant fund recipients during their disbursement period.

Module 4: Cost principles

This module will outline the regulations of costs throughout the life of the grant, including governing costs, indirect costs, costs that require approval and how the costs are applied.

Module 5: Risk management and single audit

This module will demonstrate to the user how to manage risk under the regulations set forth in Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, and provide an introduction to single audit requirements.
